Medicare
Explained
Medicare offers different options for you to get health care coverage. Original Medicare includes Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance), Medicare Advantage plans (also known as Part C) are offered by Medicare-approved private companies that must follow rules set by Medicare, and Part D (prescription drug coverage).
MEDICARE ADVANTAGE
Medicare Advantage (MA) plans are an alternative way to receive your Original Medicare benefits. MA plans include Medicare Part A, Part B, and most include Part D.
MEDICARE PART A
Part A is otherwise known as Hospital Insurance. It helps cover inpatient care in hospitals, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and home health care.
MEDICARE PART B
Part B, Medical Insurance, helps cover services from doctors and other health care providers, outpatient care, home health care, durable medical equipment, as well as many preventive services (like screenings, shots or vaccines, and yearly “wellness” visits).
MEDICARE PART D
Medicare Part D is a prescription drug coverage for Medicare beneficiaries, offered by private insurance companies and subsidized by the federal government. It is optional but may incur penalties if enrolled later.
